It is long, but please read to the end to see the point... thanks
Ai is a tool for Artists to use it for their benefit, not to be afraid of it.
Yes to sell the AI generated prints without disclosing it's an AI, is a scam, but use it to get your ideas across to see if it's good, before you take your idea to next level and start sketching on a paper or painting and wasting the materials.
Nowadays if you want to paint something in human form and need a model to do it, can you afford it? Can you afford to purchase reference image photo's from photographers, the models they use are they OK? That's why many Artists use Gen Ai to get their idea started and see the proportions, movements, the composition they need and action. It doesn't mean AI is bad, it's here to help, not to scam!
AI it's like Photoshop or Corel Painter, or other digital productivity tool, many people use photoshop to compose digital Art, then using it and applying it to the canvas. In the photoshop many people use images as "references", to trace and paint over it, so let's ban this form of Art as well. Don't you know who does?
So is it AI generated art, or Artist prompted his Idea to AI and chose to start a composition that way (being lazy to sketch the idea on a paper or use "references" in a digital media) it doesn't mean he didn't spent his time to paint on canvas (time have it's monetary value isn't it?), so the Artist who use his time shouldn't be compensated?
Yes it should be disclosed to people, that the painting or sculpting ide was initially created on AI or other digital form to get the idea across, then he used it to create his original Artwork based on AI or other digital form.
That will be more honest to the client and it's better, because some professional Artists also use AI for his/her idea, just like other digital tools available to do so.
Many Artists today creating their Art digitally, using tools like Photoshop, Sketchbook, Painter and so on and getting these Artworks out and making their living, most of these digital creating tools now being replaced by AI and don't get me wrong, it was coming for long time! Photoshop and all Adobe products using AI, all digital media platforms are using AI, all over the manufacturing sectors where software available (CNC tooling and manufacturing), today using AI.
Don't get angry, face the reality and use it wisely, AI is the next generation of tool to be used by Artists to create images. AI can't paint on canvas yet or sculpt, Artists do!
Artists should not be afraid of AI, because it will never replace them! Use it, disclose the info to the client and let them chose to buy or no. It's up to the client to chose to buy, don't let people to be scared of AI, make it your next gen tool.
P.S.
When you purchase a jewelry, are you checking it out first if the design idea generated on AI, or any other digital media before you buy, are they disclosing the AI tools used or other digital tools they use or they have created it without utilizing 3D printer, are they carving out of the wax initially? Will you do it? Is it a scam to use AI then 3D software and 3D printer to generate an AMAZING jewelry? Will you ask that items to be banned?
Or Denturists used Zbrush and 3D printer to make dentures, is it allowed or no? Should we go after them and demand to be banned?
By the way, when you read this, remember, the 1080, or other like 2K or 4K DPI (dots per inch) screens you have, learn, DPI initially originated in France in 19th century by the pointillist artist GEORGES SEURAT, who used dot's to create Art, later on scientists used it to create TV screens, Phone screens, Monitors and now the same way AI programmed to use it to come up with an image prompted, so We are going to see the progress or be an ostrich? Choice is ours.
