The consciousness debate always seemed trivial to me. If a robot is beating on your door trying to kill you, what does it matter if it’s conscious or not? It’s there, and it’s trying to kill you. Philosophy goes out the window when survival is at stake, as it should.
My example here is extreme, but just imagine a majority of workers being replaced by this and then we have the AI philosopher bros saying “but it’s not conscious!” Okay, and? That’s not what people are worried about. They are worried about automation undermining their ability to be valuable.
