What is Minhaj talking about? The tractor replaced most people from having to do agricultural work! We had exponential growth from hand planting and harvesting to oxen, mules, horses then a huge jump where tractors took away most of the work. At one time people had very largely families and most of the population was involved in growing and processing food.
Robots in the house? Moderns stoves ovens, washing machines, dishwasher, refrigeration systems made housekeeping far less labour intensive and helped women leave the home and pursue careers. Machines improved textiles. We have all sort of automation, robots and mechanization that makes the home much easier to run. You don't have women sewing the families clothing, keeping the stove heated, making preservers. So many things we could call robots are making a material change in how a home operates.
