I'm somewhat split on this. I'm one of those people that don't believe in halting progress. I've never been particularly artistically gifted myself nor do I have the time to learn to create it. Hell when I was evaluated at 14 they said i had the hand writing of a 2nd grader and was informed that I had about a 30% deficit in my fine motor skills. Art was never for me lol. So I see stuff like AI art and it makes me think that I can finally stop depending on the charity of others or having to go majorly out of pocket any time I have an idea that may require art. This idea pervades through many other fields like programming, music, and anything really. Basically I think AI is a great way to gain independence. I don't have to send countless unreplied emails to get small work done. I don't have to delay something for weeks because I'm not able to create a 2d dragon to use for a cover of a video thumbnail and I have to scout for someone who can do it at a price I can afford. Just throwing out examples. I do believe, however, that we need some sort of system in place that clearly defines where AI is allowed to take information for its training data. I don't think the default setting should be "everywhere unless you say we can't". I think it should be restricted to stock images and commercial websites such as bestbuy or Walmart sites. I'm cool with it sourcing news to some degree as well. But in against it, sourcing any images that aren't expressly approved to be used outside of anything like that. No taking our fb photos, no art based sites unless the site clearly gives permission as well as the artists. Ultimately I think a system of appraisal and selling ur art to an AI company may be the way to go. Or being fully employed to create images for AI to use even. Imagine selling an AI your life's work along with word associations for 10k, 20k, 50k,...1 million... or 10 million. All depending on who you are. And maybe having some sort of value system based on the uploader for per image basis. But those are just quickly thrown together ideas.
