@AI DRIVR I can't follow your argumentation.
Why do you think the torque measurement indicates it was a human applying the torque?
The torque on the wheel is either from the human driver or from the actuators, controlled by the FSD.
You are doing a huge mistake here:
Not the torque on the wheel disables the FSD. In that case driving a simple curve would always disable FSD, as the actuators apply torque. It is the counter input of the driver that disables FSD - not torque in general.
Now let's have a look at your images:
There is torque to the left. Then there is torque to the right, which reduces the absolute torque.
THEN the FSD is disabled.
You can obviously see that in your images: the disabling does not happen at the torque peak to the left, but shortly after the counter measure to the right.
The torque reduction (counter-torque to the right) deactivates the FSD.
For other viewers: You can see that by watching the video in slow motion.
Unfortunately, the steering wheel position is already leading into the woods and the harm was done.
Now what does this mean:
If the right steering disabled the FSD, it for sure was not the FSD that turned the car to the right. So it must have been the human driver.
If steering to the right is a counter measure that disabled the FSD, it was the FSD that was actually turning the steering wheel to the left.
This said, people should not rely on the FSD. If you drive hundreds of hours without an issue, you start trusting the system. And then, when something suddenly goes wrong, only the delay to lift your arms to grab the wheel is too long to correct a critical driving error. I had to learn that lesson during many professional driver safety trainings with specialized cars, where intentional breakouts were triggered to train the driver. Obviously this was on automotive proving grounds and not on public streets.
FSD is still an L2 advanced driver assistance system - not more and not less.
Do not put Elon's lies over your family and friends.
If you love your family and friends, keep your hands very close to the wheel when driving in FSD mode.
