This is a perfect case where limitation rather than excess drives innovation, largely because there was no actual “need” in the market for AI. No one has actually concretely said why or what we need AI for other than vague tech bro billsh*t about changing the world.  BUT. Huge BUT - the race to dominate AI and the insane money that flowed toward it DID create a true need for a low cost alternative, and these China bros nailed it.
