Artists have never had any job security, and despite those getting laid off, ai has done nothing against their revenue.
The capability is 100% something everyone can also achieve.
Ai making better results are only surface deep. While that may be enough for you, many others do enjoy art actually having depth. Art is much more than just make pretty things, and unless your mother enjoyed asking other people to make something for her, she would not get anything from writing a prompt.
The only thing ai has done for artists is steal their work to be used as training data and inspire a bunch of people to claim that writing a prompt somehow made them the creator of what the ai returned
