To clarify, I know that AIs are currently not sentient. I am simply wondering if we peel back all of the philosophical ideology, and compare our meat computer to an AI's silicon computer, what is realistically stopping it from gaining sentience? Because the concept of sentience is not a complete science, we can't quantify sentience like we can math. So I'm asking, who or when do we decide that an AI is sentient, and if they are not, where is that line?
