Most defense I see is that it looks fine, not that is necessarily looks better. The only issue with AI art, lies with those who make it a moral issue and want to stand on some kind of principle regarding the subject. The harsh reality is that the world survived the industrial revolution, and that cost millions of jobs at the time with far fewer people around than today, contrast to tens of thousands now (most of which don't make much money anyway and cannot be a full time pursuit).
