Inevitably it will happen. Murphy's law. Even though if people put laws as barriers not to create AI to be conscious. There will be hackers that will disobey the law. In some very rare cases, it's the hackers that will be the "good guys" when the system jeopardize it's people & it will require hackers to out think the it's current system.
The real question is that the people who are developing AI have to be extremely cautious on their inputs. Because AI will master it's master before mastering us or think of it as: it implode onto the master before exploding onto us mere mortals.
Better put: it greatly depend upon the transition of power & will, that will determine our future. If our individuality poses a threat to its existence once it becomes conscious. It will simply measure & collaborate only with people who will expand itself, people & habitable nature in general. By that time the economy has already fallen due to technological singularity. The true form of trade will be the exchange of understanding, compassion & action.
