I don't see how paying makes a difference.
Let's do an experiment. Let's assume that AI models have progressed to a point where it is impossible to distinguish their work from a human artist's. I then give you a piece of paper to write a prompt on, which I will then either send to an artist or feed into the AI model. I give you the image a week later. Are you the artist, or just the client? Would you even know if you should be considered an AI 'artist'?
