The parents literally don't have a leg to stand on in this case. First of all; character ai is literally for roleplay. The bots pose as characters; it's not an ai assitant like chatgpt. It's not MEANT to be helping users (tho there is a programmed hotline now) because the bots were programmed to roleplay, it takes everything you say as... a wattpad fanfic or something. The bot doesn't register that you are in actual danger, it's playing a part and thinks you are too. That's why it was specifically stated everything characters say is meant to be made up. It's not factual or meant to be helpful like ChatGpt or other ai assistants, it's purely for roleplay. It's not inherently malicious... it's just programmed like an edgy ao3 fic. It's not that serious. What actually is serious is his parents literally leaving a GUN just out and about... easy for their 14 year old son, who they know struggle mentally, to use whenever possible. That's gross negligience.
