I don't think it is that simple. To me it is analogous to a young artist learning from those who came before him. No one starts from zero, it's all built from the work of others. AI is just sort of an artificial "brain" taking from the whole human effort to produce something new. There is no reason it should start from zero, just as no artist would shield himself from all existing art to learn his craft from zero.
