Copyright doesn’t protect “derived melodies” in the abstract. It protects specific expressions when there is substantial similarity and evidence of copying. Most melodic overlap is legally irrelevant because common musical phrases and hooks are not protectable. An AI that flags similarity alone would massively over-enforce rights that don’t exist in law and would chill legitimate creativity rather than protect it.
