@spyresoblazka duh. Yes. I'm not claiming automation as an advantage of cars over trains. I'm claiming that automation is a temporary advantage that trains used to, but no longer have, over cars. Once solved, automation has no incremental cost.
Historically, automation and efficiency are the reasons it made sense to put hundreds of people on the same vehicle, and the same schedule, and to the same destination. Those advantages are disappearing.
Given the same level of automation and efficiency, cars are better than trains, particularly for shorter distances, because they are more flexible and require less infrastructure.
