I had similar arguments with my husband, as he didn't agree with me that prompting images is stealing/plagiarism. So I gave him an analogy, if I took apples from your garden without permission and made an apple juice or apple pie, and said I didn't stole the apples as they are not apples anymore, would you be happy that I got away with stealing your apples? He admitted I am right (but hey he is my husband, nit everyone would). AI is a tool and it should be used a one, to remove backgrounds, help define some detail but not to create sloppy images from prompts. Same like in astronomy, AI is used to analyse data e.g. from pictures of stars, AI is not creating the pictures but rather helps identify the details. AI should be a helpful tool for artists, scientists, musicians ...and not a slop generator with hallucinations as a bonus add on.
