Nah. Don't confuse enthusiasm for knowledge of good judgement.
A lot of this is being pushed by a deeply wierd Silicon Valley cult-ish thing, Effective Altruism. (They even have their own vegan murder subcult!)
I cannot stress how much of this is a group scaring itself with ghost stories and then convincing others to take the ghost stories seriously.
