Meanwhile, China training all their models on all the available data - legal or not. They don't give a shit about American law. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't kind of a situation right now. This should have been caught in the infant stages of LLM models. Instead, law and legislation move as slow as the average congress member, and the hype had everyone turn a blind eye to the blatant copyright infringement. So here we are. Waiting for the gondola to pop and crash, unable to stop it. Best we can do is think of how we can better protect content from actually being scraped by AI companies, and then prepare for some rough times, when shit eventually goes down.
