This has happened a few times. They actually pegged a guy for a robbery a couple years ago based on some facial recognition software the cops had contracted from some company, and they extradited him to another state, and jailed him for several days despite the fingerprints, his ID, etc all clearly showing they had the wrong person. The cops were so convinced their magic AI could do no wrong.
