I'm also a dev, and while I tend to agree, I also shy away from saying something can't be done, because it only takes someone to do it. I do think it will take longer to replace humans wholesale because these things can't be trusted enough. They are very powerful in the hands of expert users, but they're still a tool. For example they may help my accountant, but I'm not going to trust an AI to do my taxes by itself, and the same goes for anything else...for now.
That said, we need to make it illegal for companies to replace human jobs so that we can avoid a terrible period of mass unemployment that will effectively destroy the bargains that have underpinned society to date. People did not vote to hand all power to a handful of corporations and government entities, and they won't stand for it.
