Put yourself in the position of the robot. You can think, you are self aware, you understand happiness and sadness. You're basically the same as you are now, except rather than flesh and blood, you are steel and fuel. And you are told you don't deserve any rights because you're not "living". How did the black man feel when he was told he didn't deserve freedom because he wasn't white? We, as human beings, always make excuses to put ourselves above something else, and to justify cruelties.
And judging from so many comments that are exactly like yours.... it seems so many of us never, ever, ever, learn from the lessons of our past. It wasn't that long ago when the idea of a black man being equal to a white man was as ridiculous as the idea of a sentient machine deserving the same rights as a human being.
