One of the main reasons AI can't replace software engineers is that English is not a programming language. Let me clarify: if you work on a big project, you need a sort of exact specification of what the software should do and how. Currently, that is done using a programming language. Natural language will never replace that because it is ambiguous. Code is not! So you will always need to know at least how to read a programming language. Maybe the writing will be done by AI, but humans will need to understand it in order to build software.
