Perhaps LeCun and Mitchell can comment on this paper released by DeepMind on 5/25/23. So are these experts in the field so confident that the current state of these LLM's are just so benign and stupid they pose no risk? Search for "Model evaluation for extreme risks" for the pdf and read it for yourself.
I don't think that LeCun and Mitchell are oblivious to the real concern from developers of AI tech, it's more an intentional decision to engage in propaganda in service to all the money that is to be made, pure and simple.
