Men need to learn to work with their emotions not just their logic, not to dissociate emotionally. Listening to people like Hinton and Musk discuss their emotional dissociation helps explain the world's problems, given both of them have helped create the risks. Hinton's hardline on materialism is the core of his conceptual problem. That's why "conscious" is a nonsensical term to him, yet he's only too happy to abundantly apply that term to machines. Teach the man to meditate. Make space for female and Indigenous leaders and fast. Be prepared for significant systemic shifts, including some limitations on infinite profit growth to be aligned with natural boundaries. Also, we will no longer define "intelligence" as logic and analysis so we will either have to rename AI or vastly re-conceptualize what it does and why. Capitalism and democratic systems will evolve to better serve human and planetary health.
