I’m not sure I can get on board with the gorilla problem. Imagine this; instead of non verbal animals, what if Gorillas had a way to communicate in a way that we could fully understand and we could communicate with them even if they were just on the level of small children. We would immediately recognize that as higher consciousness and a large percentage of humans on earth (let’s be honest, the west) would be inclined to help these talking gorillas as a disadvantaged minority. AI is a product of our collective consciousness and wisdom and especially geared towards the west and liberal democracies, I think Elon is right about the general solution; if we make the AI maximally honest and curious and with a general care for humanity like a genius autistic child who nonetheless loves his slightly less gifted parents, it’ll “want” to keep us safe by default
