This might be an unpopular opinion, but all of the issues outlined regarding AI within education are all reflections of the education system and its problems. Before AI ever came into the picture. All those issues are minimal. If you care about what it is that you're using AI to work on. You will ask for citations and you will ask it to fact check and you will use it to dig in deeper to ensure accuracy and validity if you care. All AI has done is show how little the average student cares about what it is that they are learning because the entire education system is broken and has been broken for probably decades. We've somehow created a world where education is all about grades, but at the same time the grades don't matter. It's all just become boxes to check off, nobody goes to college to learn anything. They go there to get a degree so that they can get a job. This system of course creates pressure to use tools like AI to exploit it to the benefit of the end user to the maximum degree possible. My unpopular opinion is that AI will actually end up being a massive benefit to education in the long run because it's going to force us to rethink how it is. We both administer education and maybe even who is involved in higher education. The simple fact of the matter is there are millions upon millions, I would say the majority of students, who simply don't actually have any interest in higher education and only attend it as a means to an end. This is a problem on many levels that has to be addressed, that should have been addressed, and now we're finally going to have to deal with it.
