I feel like there's a more nuanuced middle ground we can take which validates both sides of the debate. While AI art isn't innately bad IMO (although artist should of course be fairly compensated for when their art is used as training data for AIs), TBH even the most sophisticated prompt engineers (at least in my opinion) ultimately share more in common with an overarching creative director in a collaborative/creative studio or business than an artist, where the AI system is the artist (or at least the amgalmation of human artists) and the human prompter is at best serving as in an editorial and broadly director-esq role which accepts, rejects, directly modifies or suggests how to modify the work to the artist (in this case the AI) which is working under/for them. Not to say that the prompter or for that matter the programmer is entirely undeserving of credit, but they aren't as directly involved in the creation of the art in the same way as other types of artists due to the nature of delegation to automatic systems (and thus its fair that AI art isn't copyrightable).
