I'm someone who doesn't mind AI Art. Though I think AI Generation is a better term. I'm someone who can't draw well, nor do I want to dedicate the time for the skill. I actually went to an art school for 4 years during elementary where art/drawing was a part of every assignment and project. I largely disliked it. I really suck at visualizing angles and depth and suck even more at transcribing what I picture. Drawing just isn't enjoyable for me. I do truly believe that some people are more art oriented than others. Just like some people are more math oriented. A good example is me and my niece. I've been crocheting for over a decade now and I'm useless without a pattern. My neiece was able to freehand within a year of learning and struggles following patterns. I see nothing wrong with using AI to generate a quick doodle or an OC as long as it's labeled as AI generated. Though for larger projects I do think it's better to commission. Which is what I have done and am currently doing now. (Got 2 pieces coming in the next week or so I'm pretty excited for.) I do think stealing someone's character, whether AI generated or drawn is a shitty thing to do. Every artist I see who does it has come off as pretentious or holier than thou. I'm someone who's creativity flows through writing. It's something I enjoy doing. And while I would never call anyone who uses AI Generation an artist, there is an inherent creativity towards thoughtful prompts. Not "make my character Ghibli," but vivid detail and effort place into their characters descriptions and mannerisms. TLDR; Yes, using AI for art is a skill issue. But there's nothing wrong with having said skill issue.
