Part of the awkwardness is that there Sam has to interpret the questions because the answers are abstract, because AIs are abstractions. A lot of the conversation was about AGI, which we have not made significant progress on yet. LLMs / Agents / "AI" are more like "math".
So asking questions about who controls the math, or why the math does this or that is just hard to answer because it does not make sense. The math does not copy IP, the math does not make weapons, we do. Modern AI is a abstract concept.
If people are sensitive to IP issues then governments can try to regulate learning input. However that will just handicap local AI, other countries and private models will process that data and get the benefit.
The world will have to adapt to it, just like it did with writing and math.
