To be absolutely honest, i think we already are too late.
Let's take a senario that ai doesn't go rougue, but humans will use ai to make everything efficient with athe pace of ai advancement soon all the job roles will be taken by ai and finally almost all humanity will loose their jobs. In such case who will buy end products and services of those companies who replaced humans with ai ? People are too dumb to play with ai.
Still the main driving factor of humans are greed than anything else. As long as we are based on greed we will never evolve. Ai will not use any method to destroy humans as aj mentioned. Ai will sit back and watch as humans destroy themselves as i told earlier. if ai is intelligent as we think they will never even consider destroying humans.
We will destroy ourselfs on those time if some managed to hide in a remote location and not depend on society and money, even they will fail as time goes on because of greed which ultimately push humans to do anything for power.
