The AI isn't "taking over" anytime soon, it doesn't yet have the capabilities. They are however using this story as a coverup for the millions of jobs that companies are currently transferring to new immigrants on H1B visas.
There's supposed to be a cap, but if you look up the employees laid off in 2025 supposedly because of AI, it's the same number as the increase in H1B visa cap exemptions that the exact same companies have been granted just this year by the current administration.
We are being replaced so they save money on labor, since immigrants are in a more precarious situation so will hold on to these jobs with their lives. They can and do also pay them significantly less than they market rate in America. We are not being replaced because AI is better than us at doing our jobs.
