My guess is that before Stable Diffusion, creating the image he had took a lot of refining and fine tuning in the prompts he made. Before Stable Diffusion, creating realistic images similar to his image actually took a lot of trial and error because the resources to create something just as realistic, detailed, and as fast just wasn’t there yet. Two years ago, his work definitely was gold and definitely took a lot of time to recreate. With Stable Diffusion, that gold gradually faded because of how fast, realistic, and more advanced it truly was compared to previous A.I. models. To copyright it or not is a different story however. Just like in all things, eventually society will come to embrace new frontiers. But it will always start with disapprovals, hurdles, and oppositions. Once society catches up with the speed of AI’s growth, society will learn to adapt and eventually welcome something that was so hated in the first place. To illustrate, what if society makes it so that artists whose works are being used by the AI get paid royalties every time their art is mentioned on a prompt. This one example drastically changes society’s view of art and eventually encourage more people to be more enthusiastic in doing art. Instead of artists hating AI art, they will eventually welcome it wholeheartedly. That was just one example out of many. A knife 🔪 can be easily used to harm you but if used slightly differently, you can change it from something harmful to something helpful for you. A.I. is just a slightly complicated knife because it’s new. But once we start integrating it into our lives and learn more about it, we can learn to turn all the harmful aspects around it (taking over jobs, etc.) into something that will eventually help us in the long run. Individually and collectively. A.I. art included. (Who knows? It might actually become the catalyst for us to become more in touch with our artistic selves.) Right now might not be it but it’s only a matter of time. Personally, I’m not a fan of copyrights because it hinders our creative growth greatly. Whether it’s copyrighted or not, we should strive for a system that encourages creativity to be equated with abundance (whatever they may be).
