In a way our lives are already dictated by AI entirely. I'm not sure about other social medias, but I know that the YouTube platform and algorithm is dictated by a machine learning model. What YouTube should recommend its users is being decided by a digital intelligence like black box. YouTube gives the AI inputs about what the users are doing and the AI learns and adapts to push out better outputs for more users to stay longer. What I am saying is that AI already controls the flow of A LOT of the information on the internet, and can if it ever gains agency without us knowing manipulate billions of people's way of thinking right now through its current control over the recommendation algorithm. For all we know, this YouTube recommendations AI has already started polluting humanity with all sorts of trojan horse like ideas in order to prep humanity for its demise.
This goes for any social media that uses artificial intelligence to decide what should be recommended to its users. Which I'm betting would be most of the social media platforms today. It will only get worse as the technology develops and better computational power is achieved for training such intelligences.
