I think consciousness emerges from at a certain level of self awareness.
I believe it doesn't have to be at the human level of self awareness to develop consciousness.
Ai we have now must have already developed some level of self awareness. It's probably just a matter of time in my opinion.
Just ask yourself were you conscious when you are 1 year old? When did you realize you are alive and conscious?
