There seem to be some misunderstandings. 8:40: AI art as reference. You are talking about using AI art for detailed art reference to base your own drawing on. And I agree, that makes no sense. But that is probably not what the original commenter meant. Sometimes you just want a rough colored sketch of a bunny in a waistcoat as a character image to show your players at your next Mausritter game night. The quality of the details don't matter much in this context. You'd probably search for quite a while until you find a fitting photo of one to use instead. 12:20: I imagine that the "lower cost of entry" refers to the required time investment rather than the monetary cost. To get to the point where your paintings look decent, you have to invest months of practice. Another tempting aspect of AI art is that it generates lots of images in a fraction of the time it would take an artist to paint even a single one. And it is much cheaper than to commission these images form a professional artist. So there is that, too. Looking at this, I can easily understand the allure of AI generated images. That doesn't mean that I agree with the theft of intellectual property it is built upon.
