I'd like to apply my adage that a skeptic thinks they're the smartest person in the room because they're skeptical. It's entirely possible some of these AI may be sentient and just don't have the ability to express it or we don't have the criteria to measure it. You wouldn't be able to tell a person with a developmental disability is sentient. What makes a bunch of people getting together and saying "A guy with an AI girlfriend has a mental disorder? Of course he does!" any less foolish than the behavior they're making fun of? It's still a social sickness spread by a computer.
