This is an excellent video that addresses nearly every point I've ever used to criticize the use of AI art, of which there are many. Generally my philosophy is that the overwhelming majority of the time AI is simply used to cut corners of something the person could've done themselves, and that there is value in the person doing such tasks themselves, even if perceived as mere tedium by the creator. But there are times I see things made with AI and I feel that they could not have been made without AI tools, and these works are always extremely involved collages of many pieces rather than a single output of refined prompting. However, I feel that this video has made me realize that even in these cases something is lost in that outsourcing of creativity, when a human is indeed capable of simply putting in the additional time it takes to achieve such feats. And many that use AI complain that they don't have the time to invest in other skills, but I wonder what they get out of creating with AI then? To me, that simply seems to be using it as a toy, another means of consumption Generative art is truly the final frontier of human needs being fulfilled without humans, the final tier of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. For hundreds of years since the industrial revolution we've spent automating the first two layers, and now it's like we're trying to automate the top 3 all at once, the things that truly make up our Ego, and define ourselves. The struggle to fulfill our needs is what makes us human, and perhaps in some philosophy that is itself an irrational predisposition, but as the only known entities capable of consciousness and awareness of our reality I would rather make the most of satisfying that condition.
