Personally I think the idea of AI art being 100% stand alone and usable for anything and everything is a pipe dream, at least until real actual AI becomes a thing and the AI can create its own original art. What all the AI artistic stuff should be focusing on is creating tools that can be used to assist the actual artists in any given field of work, for example having a suite of AI tools that can quickly create multiple choices of "wood texture" for a game where the people responsible for texturing and stuff can pick the ones that fit best and make changes to them is a good way for AI to become relevant. Games/movies/design have a lot of pieces where having tools you can just tell to give you a bunch of variations on something can be a big time and money saver. Imagine making a game and you could use a plug-in for whatever program you are using and have it create 20 different types of graphical effects that you could then tweak and change on your own in the program to fit more exactly to what you wanted? Thats imo the inevitable future of artistic AI and its the only thing they can do a good job at.. save time and serve as inspiration for the human using it. Ofc the moment we have our actual true AI overlords then they can probably make perfectly fine original art on their own, the benefit of having 128+++++ threads to think with and able to practice drawing hundreds of different things every few seconds would give them a ungodly amount of experience in just a day but we are noooowhere close to having real AI yet.
