He has some interesting things to say, but one thing he ignores when he’s talking about a robot feeling fear for example is the concept of qualia. The robot can exhibit behaviours that look like fear, but there is something unique about actually feeling that emotion. And I think it’s this concept that he’s missing when he talks about creativity. Yes a computer may be able to form more interesting and creative links than humans at some stage, but art is about more than that. If that were all it was, then the art considered most worthy would always be the most cerebral, but it isn’t. One major component of art is trying to convey to another human something that is inexpressible. It’s trying to convey that qualia. For each person that is different, and it can never quite be captured, but we still strive to do it. That’s what a machine can never do, unless it achieves sentience
