*The "good old days" were not really so good.:* Yeah, we need to bring back those typewriters, and human computers? Yeah, computers were once human. What boring job that must have been doing tedious calculators all day. And ban all those job-stealing calculators and adding machines? Often when I am driving, I feel like my brain is tasked to run a "driving" computer program. The task is so much like doing computations, and doing tedious driving decisions. I am pretty sure that my brain is *NOT* optimized for running "computer programs". A computer might be a better match for that. When I watched the movie _I,Robot_ one thing that I found a bit shocking was when his self-driving car failed to recognize that the robot truck and its robots were setting up an ambush, and so he switched to manual override, and *a steering wheel popped out of the dash!!! What a shock!* What greedy corporation is going to want to spend an extra $20 per car unit, to put in controls to allow the human to drive? Out of the goodness of their greedy hearts? No, I think some government mandate that cars had to be equipped with a better manual override than a mere joystick or video game controller, would be the most plausible explanation as to why there was a ready steering wheel hidden within his dash.
*But what about cobots?:* I once thought that due to those costly-value truck shipments, that companies would want to keep "truck riders" to help manage the loads", but perhaps that was too much "wishful thinking". There is this thing called "cobots", or robots that are designed to work with humans, but that too, may be a tad too much "wishful thinking". But there are examples that are not even called "cobots", such as elevators (which have long been self-drive oh BTW), and power steering. I would love to have a self-drive car, but that is not taking away people's jobs, as I have not had the money to hire a chauffeur anyway. And what is the end-game? The deep state evil elitists plan to get rid of humans outright? They are too lazy to lift a finger to do their own work. They expect us to do their work for them. Just enough "worker bees" so that they do not have to lift a finger or break a sweat to do any real work themselves. But one saving grace has been, that when we the common people do their work for them, at least we get to use power tools, often have air conditioning in our offices or vehicle cabs, and cheap electricity and machines to help us to do the work, so that it is less "back breaking". But then they come up with their evil and hokey "climate change" theories and evil "overpopulation" dogma actually based very much into eugenics and r a c i s m, because the oppression that they impose onto us, is not severe enough yet? They want to eliminate humans not just from jobs, but to eliminate us altogether?
*I can not even begin to keep up!*: My progression of video game consoles was NES, PS2, Switch 1. Quite the large gaps in there, I can hardly keep up. Already they are talking of a PS6 within a few years? Really? I do not even have a blu-ray player yet.
*My hopes for the high-tech future:* I would like to progress, I would love to have a self-drive car, but progress at what pace, and towards what end? I currently do not like self-checkouts, I thought it was a conflict-of-interest to ring our own sales? And a relative thinks it is about eliminating jobs. I agree, I would rather wait on a human to do it. I have run checkout, and it is more complicated than people think. We checkout people are expected to know how to do a lot of things. Why are they trying to get customers to do the work of their employees? The big problem with self-checkouts, is that I think robots should prove competence before they are allowed to take our jobs. If they can not do the job, then why shouldn't robots get fired also? When the robot can handle all the items and responsibly bag them, and put cold stuff separate from the other more durable groceries, then maybe they can have the job.
*Someday, all cars will be self-drive?:* I suspect that computers may soon prove that they are better drivers than any mere human can be. But then, I am on my 8th main computer, and so how reliable are computers really? I have yet to see any computer that was competent to operate for too long, without some serious human oversight. Now maybe my very old car's ECU or engine control unit computer, may be old, but it is not tasked to do much other than to run the engine. How many people realize that cars have not had distributors for decades? They found some parts that routinely wear out, that could be eliminated. Now a computer, via sensors, such as the crankcase position sensor, just decides when is the best time to fire the spark. But a lot of people are complaining that cars have become too complicated and too expensive, and that the best cars, maybe still the best to own, were built in the 1990s and early 2000s. And it has become like a cult religion, that everything now has to be complicated and to have internet connectivity to do anything. And whatever for? So that greedy manufacturers can take away "free" features and put them behind some subscription paywall, or perhaps even just brick your device via unwanted firmware update when they do not want for you to use it anymore, to be forced to go buy something newer?
