I think it's only controversial because artists think that they're better than the factory worker who lost their job in quality control because an AI could detect defective products more accurately and reliably.
This controversy has the same energy as the backlash when journalists started losing their jobs and people started throwing "learn to code" back at the very same journalists who had used that to dismiss complaints of people who had lost their jobs.
