If generative AI can do anything good that is art. To generate emotions in humans is the simplest thing. The hard part for AI would be do, for example, proper math. AI learned from humans, which are emotional animals, not logical animals. AI art makes art at everyone's reach (making and experiencing), another tool to democratize art, which has always been some elitist thing (specially crafting art). Same luddites complained about photographic camera, photoshop, CNC machines and so on. But due to the elitist nature of artists, when something is easier to craft, most of it would not be considered as art, despite being crafted the same way. For example, a selfie on a Instagram story is usually not art, but there are thousands of iphone photographers that are considered artists. So what is art? That depends on who you ask, but somrtimes there is no objective difference in the crafting process. Selfies are also usually intended to show the subject's beauty (one self usually), so why is not art? Imo is because elitism, the need to make art something more special (e.g. now doing things old school feels fancier: using film, vinyl, oil on canvas, chisel... Because it requiers more work than needed for the same result). What is mentioned as "aura" in the video. Thats just people wanting to make human work more valuable than machine's work, even though machines are better at doing the same job. (My take is that the psychological added value for some work vs other is the amount of time a human invests into the job, as time is a finite resource for humans, because of the lost cost opportunity, not necessarily because of the amount of time itself). Same way , AI can generate now a lot of content, but only the "higher quality" ones would be considered art in the future (per my prediction). AI will be accepted as an artistic tool, thats for sure. Just like Photoshop. And many talented people will create amazing content with it, previously impossible without the economic means. PS: the copying argument is just bs. Human art is also based on copying first, developing your own style by merging influences. As i said, AI learned how humans do it. Its called neural network for a reason. Of course most people barely understand the math behind, but hey, use AI to explain it for you!
