So, while i watched this video, i think i pinned down my own personal reason for disliking AI art so strongly, and what it boils down to is how I perceive my own, ans someone else's art. In short, art for me is a glimpse into how your mind works. It's the coolest, most expressive gaze into someone's world-- it's personal and meaningful to them in ways that they would probably struggle to say if asked to put it into words, so there it is-- *on the paper.* Without saying hardly anything at all, that person can tell me so, so much about themselves, and that fact has always been so cool to me, and that's my favorite thing about art. And it makes me, in turn, try to express the thinga im feeling or what i want to say in art form. It's a visual conversation in the most basic sense. AI Art, therefore, is an echo chamber. Where saying a word just repeats that wird back to you-- it isn't a conversation. AI Art doesn't tell me anything about the artist, it only puts together this same-y, middle ground piece together of borderline realism and anime 90% or the time, and takes away what the artist, they person they stole from, was trying to say. It's plagiarism, but saying what the artist said louder and getting all the attention, it's turning in a paper copied word-for-word from Wikipedia. There isn't a voice behind what is generated. There's just... a magpie, something that copies all of the qualities one might like about a piece of art and spits them out perfectly, again and again. But it doesn't say anything, or express a feeling with that piece. It's just something nice to look at, and "Look how easy this is now! Isn't technology great?!" It strips away that cool gaze into someone else's mind that i loved so much, and it frustrates me to no end.
