the cost of a lidar system as it was build in to teslas is marginal compared to costs of other systems used in FSD system. Like the 2 chips used to run the nuronet in the car. Imagine a nuronet that can drive a car with only 2 low resolution cameras spaced extreamly close together and driving a car with only minimal lerning. It has been done called " A human". Only problem is we arent that good in training AI in cars but thats why the whole thing is called a beta and requiers total and continious attention.
