The AI-generated piece reminded me a lot of the way a certain beloved illustrator (Rella) would draw Miku (down to the composition and that style of lighting they're known to do) that I'm not quite sure what to make of this story; it's kinda surreal in a way I'm not sure how to process what to take out of this story except that I find it sweet seeing artists draw the piece in their own ways even knowing that image generators exist out there. In the meantime I do know that this artist, as well as their fellow "god-painters" of their caliber whose works were likely trained on for the generator continue to serve as references for aspiring painters in communities and digital painting courses I've seen to learn from as they develop their own skillset along the way. These artists have gone through their own journeys to create the beautiful pieces folks see from them, some even going against the norms of their time (iirc Rella doing her stylized ACG works with a sense of her signature impressionist lighting created quite a buzz during her earlier university days at a time when that style wasn't so openly seen at that level) to get to the levels people admire them and see now. I hope these artists beloved by those who look up to them are not forgotten along the way. At the end of the day I like seeing artists grow as they challenge themselves one piece at a time so I hope that these artists who created their own stuff as challenged by this reference do not lose heart even when the tech is a reality we live with, staying true to themselves and polishing their own skills and voice honoring their predecessors with what they do next.
