Fascinating discussion! I would embrace AI taking over jobs if it meant being able to stop working. I like my job, but honestly, I’d rather have all my time for myself and my hobbies. If I received some kind of UBI, kept my savings, and things became cheaper, I’d be totally fine with it.
I guess our lives would become more like those of cats or dogs—just chilling, eating, sleeping, and doing whatever we like all day. Many people will probably struggle with that. There will be “pretend jobs” for workaholics who need a sense of purpose: fake offices where people can fill out endless amounts of useless Excel spreadsheets. I’m sure that will be a thing.
It will also come with some constraints and not-so-nice things: overpopulation may become an issue in a world of abundance and no work. Many people might start having lots of kids. There would probably need to be laws preventing families from having, say, 10 children or more.
Driving cars will also be banned. Once AI-driven vehicles are everywhere, driving yourself will be seen as a safety risk, since AI can handle it perfectly without accidents. Many activities we enjoy today might be banned for the same reason—because AI can do them better and safer. That will be the caveat.
