As an artist I've tried out AI image generation extensively (stable diffusion, training my own models etc) and every time I come back to it the conclusion is always that while it can make it look incredibly pretty and professional, it never succeeds at making what I actually want to create. The control and accuracy of a brush is unmatched and the time it takes to reach that level of precision by prompting, training and merging models, fighting with controlnet and other AI based tools is a huge timesink only for that effort not to transfer into an actual skill and instead the methods get outdated by AI updates. It's genuine effort but one that feels more like I'm strangling another artist pointing at the paper over and over again telling them they're doing it wrong. I can imagine the effort of developing the tech itself is satisfying, but as an artist it's a frustrating experience and it's made me appreciate the drawing process so much more.
