This is very interesting because I'm actually right in the middle. I'm a character artist, Rigger, and animator for a small indie team. I also enjoy AI and I'm actually very fascinated with its potential. Using it is also horrifying and fills me with existential dread, but I'm also excited about the potential of producing content faster. I'm at a point where i feel like I'm more likely going to just be a rigger and Animator with how things are going with the 3d AI generators. I've been playing around with Ai image generation and then hand sculpting, Retopoing, texturing, Rigging then animating. I've also tried using AI image generation, then using AI 3d generators to create the AI Image I made to bring that mesh into zbrush as a base mesh to some results I'm happy with. Anyway, I usually never talk about this cause people are very upset about AI. but I also understand why they are upset. I've complained about it myself especially when it comes to how they just showed up and pulled peoples work without consent. I can straight up type in an artist name that i like from art station and tell the Ai to make it in their style and it does a Decent job. So, I do agree that its ripping peoples work. And I think for those artists, the argument is much truer than it is for most people arguing against AI, not to sound like a cold asshole. I've Also used some of the arguments you called out. I do think we do pull from each other too much. Even Hayao Miyazaki pointed out that many people who make anime need to go into the world and learn from life not from watching anime. (Thats not a direct quote, it was something along those lines though) And I do think there is an elitist sphere or artist who shit on a 2x4 and squirt elmers glue on it and sell it for 2 million dollars that I hate lol. They Don't think what we do is art. so in a sense I agree with you on this point cause most of the peoples work from our industry doesn't count as art to them cause some gate keeping douche in an art gallery get to decide what is real art and what isn't. I also saw the video from Gary you referenced doing the test and I actually don't see a problem with what he was trying to prove, regardless of how he proved it. he was proven right ultimately. Artist shouldn't have a monopoly on what gets to be art even if we don't like jackson pollock or his work. Most of the people he asked don't even know who jackson pollock is and that is why they are the perfect test subject. They just liked his work cause they thought it was actually his and not an AIs. There is no way in hell i would choose A banana taped to a wall over the concept art for Elden right or something like that like. even if it turns out the Elden right concept art is made by an AI. I can't pretend the banana is good. Where is the standard? Why can't I sell my monitor after sneezing on it for a year without cleaning it for 2 million dollars? Who puts value on that? oh that's right, an elite group of people who tell you it's worth that much. anyway, I know like I sound like I'm 1000% pro AI but I'm not. I'm 50 50 with it. I see a path, a narrow path where We can use it to deliver our ideas in a faster way. But I also think it can be dangerous. i think the process itself will be lost and all of those who love to be in the process with it. Sorry for the rant i was just happy to hear that you aren't completely against it and I wanted to see how much you aren't against it if you see my comment.
