I appreciate your analysis, which is much more nuanced than most. But I think even you are missing the deeper point. What’s coming with AI isn’t just another wave of automation, but total replacement. Once AI becomes better than humans at almost everything, even at creating new jobs, those jobs will also be performed by AI, not people. The usual argument that “new work will appear” doesn’t apply in a world where machines can outperform us at inventing, creating, and managing anything. The real question isn’t about reskilling or reinventing ourselves. It’s about what happens to society and the meaning of human life when we’re no longer needed to create value at all. This is a completely unprecedented situation, and it deserves a much deeper conversation than just assuming we’ll always find a new economic role. That’s the real paradigm shift ahead.
