I’m a graphic/visual designer. I hate where ai “art” is right now. I’ve been interested in ai since 2019/2020 with artists like holly Herndon and arca who used it more as another tool or as a new instrument/effect. I enjoyed seeing the infancy of ai when it was used to commercialize and commodify art even more than it is. That being said I hate the slop that companies, and other artists put out. I do think ai art has a place in the world despite what most people may believe. There are artists like “balfua” who I think pioneer the future of ai art. It’s not trying to replicate a style it’s using the uncanniness of ai to his strength. There are many negative effects of ai art whether ethical, environmental or otherwise, but I also realize it’s not going anywhere and I hope we can get to a point where it becomes a more ethical service. I’ve been wanting to experiment with ai by feeding it my own work (visual,3d, etc. )and using the results as a starting point for a new piece or integrating into my existing work. I also think if you are feeding ai public domain images, art, etc there shouldn’t be an issue aside from the environmental issue. Bjork once famously said “if there’s no soul in the art then no one put it there” I feel the same about ai. I hope I don’t offend anyone but just wanted to share my hopefully well phrased comment. I see both sides of the argument, and as an artist I really do understand and see the negatives but also want to be hopeful and see the the potential.
